Ministers may make headlines – and today we’ve heard some fantastic rallying cries from people who really understand their subjects, and from MPs and councillors who stand up every day to make a positive difference to their communities – but the Labour Party is what it is because of the voluntary and often unsung work of members in its committees and member organisations, whether that’s campaigning on specific issues, or working on organisational matters.
One such is Ann Black, who is retiring having worked tirelessly and unassumingly on the party’s national executive committee for decades, as the link between constituency parties countrywide and the leadership. We welcomed her to Hadleigh last year to speak to local members, and it was a pleasure to be in the hall today as her enormous contribution to the party was recognised.
