Elections for Suffolk County Councillors will take place on 7th May this year.

The historical dominance of the Tory party in the region has done nothing to further the interests of the community at large. We are also facing the threat of the Reform Party from the right and the Greens from the left  – neither of these parties has a coherent set of policies for local government so please vote Labour for a fairer society in Suffolk.

In order to exercise your democratic right to vote, you must first Register to Vote. The deadline for these County Council elections is Monday 20th April.

It can sometimes be difficult or inconvenient to vote in person so we strongly recommend applying for a Postal Vote. The deadline for these County Council elections is Tuesday 21st April. We recommend you apply straight away. Click on the link for more information.

If you do go to vote in person, you will need to prove your identity. Under the current rules set by the Tories you will need valid Photo ID or a Voter Authority Certificate. The Labour Government will introduce an elections and democracy bill in the current parliament which will allow for other forms of proof of identity such as a bank card. This will make the requirement more democratic and easier to meet.

As you probably know, the Government has legislated to set up Unitary Authorities to replace the District and County Councils as well as to establish a Mayoral Combined County Authority for Norfolk and Suffolk. The proposed timetable for those elections is:

  • May 2028 – Mayoral Election
  • May 2027 – Councillors for Unitary Authorities

When those elections take place, using your vote to elect Labour councillors and a Labour mayor will be more important than ever.
