Voting
As you probably know, the Government has legislated to set up Unitary Authorities to replace the District and County Councils as well as to establish a Mayoral Combined County Authority for Norfolk and Suffolk. The timetable for elections will be:
- May 2026 – Mayoral Election
- May 2027 – Councillors for Unitary Authorities
When elections then take place, using your vote to elect Labour councillors and a Labour mayor will be more important than ever.
The historical dominance of the Tory party in the region has done nothing to further the interests of the community at large so please vote for a fairer society in Suffolk.
In order to exercise your democratic right to vote, you must first Register to Vote.
It can sometimes be difficult or inconvenient to vote in person so we strongly recommend applying for a Postal Vote. There is always a deadline to apply of about two weeks before any given election but it’s easy to miss. We recommend you don’t wait for the deadline and apply now. If you do go to vote in person, you will need to prove your identity. Under the current rules set by the Tories you will need valid Photo ID or a Voter Authority Certificate. The Labour Government will introduce an elections and democracy bill in the current parliament which will allow for other forms of proof of identity such as a bank card. This will make the requirement more democratic and easier to meet.
